UDL is an educational framework based on decades of neuroscience research and is endorsed by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This framework is considered best practice for teaching ALL students in an inclusive learning environment. UDL empowers both teachers and students by putting students in charge of their own learning. The goal of UDL is to create learners who are purposeful & motivated, resourceful & knowledgable, and strategic & goal oriented, in other words, expert learners.
Here are nine inspirational quotes (Plus a poem!) to ignite your passion and hopefully make you smile!
There are no labels in UDL. There are only fabulous, amazing students with different levels of variability.
You may have heard of the UDL framework, but until you’ve implemented it in your classroom, you will not see its power.
Implementing UDL requires us to unlearn many beliefs, assumptions, and teaching practices that no longer work.
UDL isn’t about erasing differences to make “one-size-fits-all” lessons and assessments. It’s about recognizing barriers, naming them, highlighting them, celebrating them, and designing for them.
The power of UDL is in recognizing variability, articulating firm goals, and shifting decision-making to students to foster expert learning.
All the UDL Guidelines in the world won’t transform practice if they aren’t in service of the belief that all students can learn.
We can’t prevent all the challenges students will face, but we can help to alleviate them by designing a learning environment that leaves no room for failure.
The magic of UDL is really, truly everyone can learn.
